Once upon a time... A garden in the height of summer. The calm of a sunny siesta. And children's snack time. Jany. She bustles in the kitchen, between sugar and flour. Above all other delicacies, what she loves to prepare is tarte tatin. Butter melts on the glass. She drops brown sugar crystals into it, in the silence of a fine, icy rain. Its fragrance swirls through the room, echoes to the veranda, travels to the pathway. The baked apples and cinnamon sticks fade into the emanations of puff pastry. Then come caramel, almonds, and vanilla which, powerful, will persist until evening.
